Just Call Me Make Do and Mend Milly!

So today is a very exciting day for me, after much debating I am finally joining the Womens Institute! Now for all of you who think this is a very old fashion thing to do (or for those of you who don't know what this is) I can tell you things have certainly changed since they first started back in 1915 during the First World War (whoa, they are OLD!).  There are various groups all around the country, each with a unique style.  I have come across two in our local area and chose the one that had less meetings (once a month) as it can be hard to commit to something every week when things are so busy at home and at work.  The aim is to meet like minded women of all ages and to learn and share skills such as crafting, sewing, cooking and baking.  I know it all sounds very retro and twee when I put it that way but trust me it really isn't.  Well maybe it is, but who cares, retro is in and we get to eat cupcakes! For the first meeting tonight we are doing cupcake decorating which I am rather excited about.  I have done cupcake decorating before, but it has always been rather amateur, see the evidence below, it will be nice to learn how to do it properly;



My Mum is joining me on this new adventure and I really love that, as one of my New Years 'non resolutions' (I made some decisions to do more of certain things but not to do actual resolutions which I always inevitbly break) was to spend more quality time with my Mum.  I am hoping to meet some new friends and to improve my crafting and baking skills and to also get some tips on my dressmaking.  I am sure whatever happens it will be fun and definitely an experience.

Is anyone else a member of the WI, or is this the first time you have ever even heard of the WI? I would love to hear about other people's experiences of being a member.  Hope everyone has a lovely Tuesday, I will be back tomorrow with my report on how my first WI meeting went (and with photos of my decorated cupcakes), wish me luck!!

    1. It takes less time than you think (I used to think I didn't have time) they run meetings for about 1.5 hours or 2 hours once a month and you can just go to those meetings (which is what most people do) the activities and events they arrange outside of these meetings probably only get attended by about a third of the members. I really enjoyed it and it was a nice change from coming home, cooking, washing and cleaning after work (Although now that all still needs to be done lol) but it was nice :) I will update properly on it later. Thanks for the comment on my dress, I have always said we have very similar style :)

    1. Thanks Josie :) It was such good fun, apparently we are going to be doing some cocktail and wine tasting at some point, ooh yey! haha.

      I know, he is a right old poopy head isn't he? I am so mature haha. I told my Mum that you said you would sign the petition and she liked it. I am going to seriously do one of those epetitions you can set up and get all my blog readers to sign it then I will present him with it haha. Fingers crossed, if all fails I have control of his American Express....LOL
